Short biography
Vera Ferra-Mikura was born in Vienna, Austria. After leaving school, she worked in her family's bird shop and then in a department store. During World War II, she worked as a stenographer for an architect, and after the war, in a publishing house. In 1948, she married Ludwig Mikura, with whom she had two children.
Nearly all her works for children and young people were characterized by a magical realism. She wrote the book for The Castle of the Lord Wuschelkopf (1966/67), considered the first Austrian children's musical.
