Valorie Fisher will read from her picture book When Ruby Tried to Grow Candy.Beginning April 1st a Main St. Window at Oblong Books and Music will showcase the work of area children's book authors and illustrators. Michelle Charles of Oblong Jr. and local author Lynn Kearcher hatched the idea of featuring the traditionally 2D work of illustrators in a 3 dimensional space. Ms. Charles rounded up some big talent to transform the store windows with their own unique vision, using their books as a launching point. "The response has been remarkable," said Charles, "there is so much enthusiasm among these creative folks. It will be fun to see the window changing from month to month." Each display will include a hidden Oblong logo for children to seek out, with a contest to enter for a chance to win a signed copy of the featured book.
The first illustrator to be featured is Sharon, CT native Carl Chaiet who has incorporated scenes from all three of his children's books into his display. Chaiet and wife, author Lynn Kearcher, will be at Oblong Books on April 19th at 11am to read from and sign their most recent release, Man's First Word (C. Chaiet Inc.). Illustrations from the book will be available for purchase at Sarah Blodgett Photography, 56B S. Center St., Millerton, NY. Chaiet's window will be followed by author/illustrator Valorie Fisher in May. Look for local authors and illustrators Nancy Castaldo, Barbara Ensor, Jacqueline Rogers and Betsy Howie in the coming months.
