Short biography
Lady Georgiana Fullerton was born Lady Charlotte Leveson-Gower, a daughter of Granville Leveson-Gower, 1st Earl Granville, and his wife Lady Harriet Cavendish Granville. She was the namesake of her glamorous maternal grandmother, Georgiana, Duchess of Devonshire. She was brought up in Paris, where her father was the British ambassador to France. In 1833, she married Alexander Fullerton, an Irish-born former army officer serving as an attaché at the embassy, with whom she had a son. After 1841, the couple spent several years traveling in France, Germany, and Italy. Then they settled in London, and she began writing novels, making her publishing debut with Ellen Middleton in 1844. She also wrote biographies, two volumes of poetry, and translated works from French and Italian. Many of her works were successful and popular. She and her husband both converted to the Roman Catholic faith.
