Max Gordon is back in the third and latest thriller in the Danger Zone series trying to get to the bottom of his mother’s death in a Central American jungle. After a former student and friend of Max from Dartmoor High, who was investigating the death, turns up dead of a supposed suicide, Max realizes he will have to look into it himself. From the opening page, Max’s hijinks and the danger that follows him will keep readers riveted to the final page. While his adventures are implausible, there is an explanation for why he is so resourceful in the wild, capable of getting out of any scrape, even with grown men, and able to survive another day—his boarding is no ordinary school though it is unclear what kind of training the students are receiving. This time a vicious assassin and an MI5 operative is chasing him from London to Miami to somewhere in the Central American jungle. He saves a drug dealer from being murdered, he escapes from a bombed speedboat unscathed, and avoids being killed by wild things in the jungle. (Not finished)… (more)

The Devil's Breath is an exciting adventure story featuring fifteen year old Max Gordon, a high school student at Dartmoor High in England. Dartmoor isn't a normal boys' school. Running, throwing, shooting, fighting, and other skills are taught there along with the regular high school curriculum.

Max rarely sees his father, but he knows he is a dangerous man who often finds trouble investigating crimes in other countries. After Max is out for a run and attacked, he discovers that his father has gone missing. When Max starts getting clues as to where his dad might be, he decides to try and find him, leading him to an adventure in Africa and a possible ecological disaster.

This was an action packed story with lots of twists and turns. There are a few mystical elements to the story that aren't explained in detail, but they do add depth. Anyone who likes mystery and adventure will love this story.

Another Great Book

Thomas Blackstone has been one of my favorite characters and I was excited to read Cross of Fire. I wasn't disappointed. Gripping combat, realism and a well executed plot definitely delivers the goods.
