This would have been better if it was more focussed on food storage. No surprise that Ms. Godfrey is Mormon (who better qualified to write this book?), but the first half is entirely applied theology and home scripture study materials. Irrelevant, intrusive and a waste of time/energy/paper for non-Mormon readers.

But what about the food storage portion of the book? Her advice on using powdered eggs and milk in place of the real things is disingenuous: the nutritional value of powdered products is greatly reduced. (Eggs lose about half the protein; skim milk vs. powdered skim milk may not be such a great loss, but I'd never go below 2% anyway: I'd be hungry again in half an hour!) And most of the recipes begin by listing two cups of sugar in the ingredients. If I'm forced to fall back on food storage, I want something that will keep me healthy in those hard times!

Worth the time of a quick skim to pick up on this one little trick, though: pureed beans can substitute for butter and oil in baked goods? I'll certainly be giving that a try. But I'm very glad I didn't buy it (borrowed from the library instead): this book is certainly not worth the cover price.
