One of the first works I read on freethought. It made a big impression on me, challenging things I had accepted most of my life, and led me to read more works on the topic. The author writes in a sharp, sassy style that brightens up a difficult and often dreary subject.

The first half of this book , dealing with religion and the bible, is very good, but I found the biographical sketches in the latter half of the book to drag. I'm not sure why, as they were written in the same easy prose as the first of the book; perhaps it's difficult for some of us to credit all the wonderful childhood memories of someone who appeared to have few serious traumas.

Very interesting look at the Bible. At times funny, at times very disturbing.

An essential read, in my opinion, for anyone looking for info on Christianity. Definitely a skewed viewpoint, but what would you expect, given the title. I'd give this a five, based on the info it provides, but it is poorly organized, many, many examples restated many times throughout the book.
