Short biography
Vivian Green was easily recognisable around Oxford by his gentle eccentricity of dress, patterned shirts, green or burgundy leather trousers and buckled shoes. David Cornwell (John Le Carre) was his pupil and later disclosed that he had used aspects of Green's persona in the creation of his spymaster, George Smiley.
Green had no connection with the secret services.
