Isabel Hoopes Grinnell graduated from Goucher College in 1919 and joined the staff of the Metropolitan Museum of Art that same year. In 1931, she married Dr. Robert S. Grinnell, a surgeon. She became assistant curator in the department of Greek and Roman art before her retirement in 1932. After retirement, she continued to work on her book Greek Temples, a study of the 25 most important temples, which was published by the Metropolitan Museum in 1943 and reissued in 1975.
