Distinguished cardiologist and brother of Pulizter-Prize winnning writer David Halberstam. Wrote papers concerning Medicare and medical litigation, as well as consulting on TV medical dramas. Wrote one novel, "The Wanting of Levine", a humorous book about the first Jewish president of the USA. Was shot by an escaped convict who was burglarizing his house. Halberstam captured him, but died of his wounds.
