"Award-winning journalist and political raconteur Chantal Hébert will deliver this year’s Bruce Hutchison Lecture. Ms. Hébert is currently a national affairs writer for the Toronto Star and a frequent guest columnist for the Montreal daily Le Devoir. She is an astute and refreshingly non-partisan observer of the national and international political scenes and is probably best known outside Quebec and Ontario as a member of the political panel At Issue seen weekly on CBC’s The National. She has served as parliamentary bureau chief for both La Presse and Le Devoir, and as a parliamentary reporter for Radio-Canada. Hébert’s first book, French Kiss: Stephen Harper’s Blind Date With Quebec (Knopf Canada, 2007), explains how Harper’s Conservatives seized power by taking advantage of the void created by “two missed rendezvous with history”: the collapse of the Quebec sovereignty movement and Paul Martin’s dismal tenure as Prime Minister."
