Robert Isbell

Ray Hicks is a legend in the NC and Tennessee mountains. He was the main draw at the Jonesborough, TN National Storytelling Festival for years. Robert Isbell has written a stark account of Ray's life growing up in the NC mountains where no one moves far from home and because he was so blessed with a loving family he never knew how devastatingly poor they were. We lost Ray way too soon, but his wit and wisdom will live on in the recordings we have and the stories passed by word of mouth - just the way he would want it.… (more)
