If you are like me, "The Ghost Story Junkie", and you like a story that will scare you out of your mind...just go to Amazon and with one click you can be scared to your heart's content. At first, it's a little hard to tell if the events that are happening are in "real" time, or if they are the events that are transpiring when Declan is reading the black journal...by the time Declan reads the second story, it becomes much easier. After Declan moves into the house, he soon finds that he's found a lot more than he bargained for. The entire story is full of eerie happenings and unexplained, goose-bump producing happenings. I loved this line from the book ..."Something isn’t quite right with this quiet little house in the woods…..but the coffee is great!" It's just one of those books you have to read in one sitting.… (more)

I picked up Rough Draft maybe six months ago and enjoyed it so when it came time to look for a vacation beach read, I settled on The Phone. The author's pacing is great, his descriptions succinct, but vivid, and his prose is polished. The book is technically very clean. I had high expectations going in and was only let down at the end, when a story that so fully had my attention stopped abruptly with a kind of open ending. I still gave this novella a 4-star rating because I loved it, right up to the very end (at 75% on my Kindle) when I was treated to the opening chapter of Rough Draft. NO!!! (LOL). The premise of The Phone was intriguing: a phone that connects the present and past occupants of a house with a history of murder. As usual, pacing and description were spot-on, and though I suspected I knew the killer out of the gate, I wanted to know how and why. That's where the story fell flat. I can't give away anything here so I'll just say that The Phone is worth reading, but I wanted more. In some cases that's a great thing. I'm not sure this is one of them as the story felt unfinished. I'm still a fan, though, and after having enjoyed The Phone, I'm on to Regret. Michael, if you're reading this, I hope you'll someday consider extending this story. It's such a great start! I want to know more about this phone.… (more)

I downloaded Rough Draft during one of its promotional days because, as a horror writer myself, the premise interested me. What I enjoyed most about the story was the characters. Engaging, well-developed, and three dimensional. I would have maybe liked Vic a little tougher, but I rooted for her and Robert from their first meeting. The mystery surrounding the ghost town and the deal that brought the writers together kept me guessing and while I think there's a little room for polishing, I would definitely recommend reading this very entertaining tale. A solid four stars for this horror twist on the paranormal.… (more)
