Short biography
Countess Mathilde von Keller was the daughter of an aristocratic German family. Her parents were Gustav Graf von Keller and his second wife Matilda von Grolmann. The unmarried Countess began her court duties as a maid-of-honor in 1881 at the wedding of Princess Augusta Victoria of Schleswig-Holstein to the future Kaiser Wilhelm II. Countess Mathilde served the Empress Augusta as a senior lady-in-waiting until 1918, when the Imperial family went into exile in The Netherlands. She lived in Potsdam and wrote her memoirs, entitled Forty Years in the Service of the Empress.
