Countess Marie Kleinmichel, née Keller, was one of the great hostesses of St. Petersburg society prior to World War I. She fled Russia during the Revolution and wrote her memoirs, Memories of a Shipwrecked World. Historian Carolly Erickson described her as "rich, haughty, and full of gossip."
