Good book to have to show the evolution of the balanced-method of trainers today (verus the pure-positive movement). The theories outlined in the book are wonderful fundamentals for any training regime, but the execution and technique of those theories is taken a bit too far, especially in the problem-solving section. Great book to give some perspective to modern training techniques, anyway. Highly recommended for anyone interested in obedience and dog behavior, though it should definitely not be the only training book on the bookshelf.

As for rating, the book deserves 4 for it's theories and overall content.

The methodology that was used before positive training was widespread. The basic techniques in this book will work, but you'll have a more mechanical and less motivated dog. And some of the recommendations are absolutely barbaric. Interesting primarily from a historic standpoint.
