Born in eastern England in 1962. Foreign correspondent and bureau chief for Reuters, the international news service, from 1987, working mostly in the Americas. Reported from El Salvador, Nicaragua, Mexico, Peru, Cuba, Madrid, Miami, London and New York. Headed the company’s journalism training programs 2006-2009.
Majored in French and Spanish languages and literature at university. Also worked as an English teacher in Paris and studied indigenous literature in Mexico. Lives in New York since 1999.
