Lillie Langtry was a British high-society beauty and socialite who was a lover of King Edward VII while he was Prince of Wales. She later became a successful actress. Her nickname, "the Jersey lily," referred to her birth on the island of Jersey and was popularized by John Everett Millais' portrait of her. Lillie Langtry toured the USA and became an American citizen in 1897. She bought a winery in California before retiring to Monaco.
