Lieutenant Howard Payson was one of several pen names used for early 20th Century American juvenile series books published by Hurst. Most of these, including the Payson titles in a couple series are attributed to John H. Goldfrap, a newspaperman who did not write books under his own name. As "Lieutenant" (or an abbreviation thereof) is part of the pen name, it has been given here as the canonical name but I am willing to be persuaded otherwise for the good of LT. -- James Keeline
