The 2nd Annual Tampa Bay Veg Fest will feature local restaurants with vegetarian and vegan food; live music; fun and games for kids; healthy-living and eco-friendly exhibitors; info on local nonprofits; animal adoptions; and well-known national and local guest speakers. 10:00 a.m.--Roberta Schiff, a vegan cooking instructor and stand-up comic, is coauthor (with fellow Veg Fest speaker Roberta Kalechofsky) of The Vegetarian Shabbat Cookbook. 11:00 a.m.--Ellen Jaffe Jones, a personal trainer and running coach who teaches classes on healthy cooking. Her book, Eat Vegan on $4 a Day, explodes the myth that eating a healthy plant-based diet is expensive. Noon--Roberta Kalechofsky, PhD, the founder of Micah Publications and the author of fiction, essays, and poetry. Her books include The Vegetarian Shabbat Cookbook (with coauthor and fellow Veg Fest speaker Roberta Schiff), Vegetarian Judaism: A Guide for Everyone, The Jewish Vegetarian Year Cookbook (with coauthor Rosa Rasiel), The Poet-Physician and the Healer-Killer: Vivisection and the Rise of a Medical Technocracy, Job Enters a Pain Clinic & Other Stories, and A Boy, A Chicken and the Lion of Judah: How Ari Became a Vegetarian. 2:00 p.m.--Carol Leifer, the featured speaker for the 2nd Annual Tampa Bay Veg Fest. She will sign copies of her book, When You Lie About Your Age, the Terrorists Win and donate all profits from copies sold at the event to Florida Voices for Animals, the local nonprofit organizer of Veg Fest. Ms. Leifer is a renowned animal advocate, comedian, television star, scriptwriter, producer and author whose portfolio includes writing for two of America’s most popular shows, Seinfeld and Saturday Night Live. She’s also a true pioneer, having been among the first female comedians to gain acclaim on the stand-up circuit. 3:00 p.m.--Tracye McQuirter, MPH, a public health nutrition expert, speaker, and author of By Any Greens Necessary: A Revolutionary Guide for Black Women Who Want to Eat Great, Get Healthy, Lose Weight, and Look Phat.
