Bunnikin's Picnic Party: a story in verse for children by A. J. Macgregor & W. Perring
Almost certainly today it is unacceptable to show an image of Mrs Bunnikin darning a stocking. It is surely also unacceptable not to castigate Mrs Bunnikin for sending her bunnies out on their own in the woods. She did take some precautions, checking the weather forecast via the barometer in the hall. But where was her iPhone? Fortunately no harm was done.
Ahh! This brings forth memories of childhood.
Timmy bunny, who lives by the deep blue sea; wakes up one sunny morning and decides it would be a perfect day for a swim. So, off he sets out to wake his siblings, including Bunny Bluebell, and his cousins who all live at No. 10.
At the sea-shore they find a green umbrella - and that is where the story really starts.
The whole thing is told in rhyme - almost like little haikus, which are accompanied by a small stamp sized blue ink line drawing on the left hand page and a beautiful colour, full page illustrations on the right.
My personal copy has no date except for a © MCML, but the 40p Net price betrays the supposition that my book dates from 1950. More likely a mid seventies reprint. Still very nice little story.
My classroom had a whole cupboard full of these Ladybird stories and I must have scanned through every copy between the ages of three to five.… (more)

This is quite an early edition of this title. Pen and Gwen, the Penguins, shell peas on the pictorial pastedown on the cover. Later they go for a joy-ride on a stolen motor-cycle. I thought joy-ride was a more recent neologism than 1947.
This copy is a presentation copy to my son, David, from the Fairhills Playgroup, Irlam.
