I haven't read very much about the Bloomsbury group in the last 20 years, as the real explosion of publications on that topic--in my mind--was in the 1970s and 1980s. I picked this up in anticipation, and after initially refreshing my interest with details of day-to-day life of the Bell family in Sussex, it didn't reward me in the end with any particular details to make this sort read worthwhile.

Voor een fan van Bloomsbury is dit boek wel genieten: alle bekenden komen weer even langs, vanuit het perspectief van Grace, de huishoudster van Vanessa Bell en Duncan Grant. Mooie foto's en mooie dagboekfragmenten.

Cover: The Kitchen Vanessa Bell c. 1943. Duncan Grant named Grace Higgens "the angel of Charleston." I've come "late" to the pleasures of the Bloomsburys, but I've jumped in with both feet up to my neck, especially their edenesque domestic scenes. Charleston and Monk House.
