Marthe Maeren studeerde recht en criminologie aan de Gentse universiteit en specialiseerde zich later in consumentenrecht in Stockholm, Zweden. Ze was stafmedewerker van het Institut Suisse de droit comparé in Lausanne, Zwitserland.
Sinds 1986 is ze aan de slag als advocate aan de Genste balie en in 1992 werd ze venoot in een advocatenbureau.
Momenteel is ze vooral actief in het begeleiden van bedrijven in de onderhandeling van aandelen. Daarnaast schrijft ze juridische thrillers.
In juridische kringen is ze vooral bekend om haar doctoraatswerk over de (on)toegankelijkheid van de Belgische rechtbanken.

Marthe Maeren (1958) is a partner at a large law office in Ghent. She was the first female crime novelist to be published in Flanders. Her crime novels evolve around the characters Frieda Degraeve and her young assistant Seppe Verdonk.
