Eveline Mahyère was born in Geneva in 1925. After her education in a convent, Madrid, and the Sorbonne, she worked as a English-to-French translator for a publisher in Paris. I Will Not Serve is her only published work. She committed suicide at the age of 32 shortly before the publication of her work.
