Rory McCarthy is the Jerusalem correspondent for the Guardian. He studied history at Corpus Christi College, Cambridge and has been a foreign correspondent for the Guardian since 2000. He was based in Islamabad, Pakistan, for four years, and regularly visited Afghanistan, covering among other episodes the fall of the Taliban. He then moved to Iraq, where he lived for nearly two years after the US and British invasion as the paper's Baghdad correspondent. From Baghdad he moved to Beirut where he covered the Arab world. Since 2006 he has been based in Jerusalem.
