Short biography
McDonald was a conservative American congressman, known both as the second president of the John Birch Society and for being the only sitting member of Congress to be killed by the Soviet Union during the Cold War. McDonald's plane (Korean Air Lines Flight 007) was shot down over the Sea of Japan in 1983 when a navigational error caused the plane to enter Soviet air space. All crew and passengers were assumed to be killed. McDonald's remains were never identified.
