Pat Miller spent the first two decades of her adult life as an academic, with special interests in biography and women’s history and literature. In addition to writing her dissertation on the American novelist Helen R. Hull, she was responsible for getting several of Hull’s works back into print and began work on Hull’s biography. Because of illness, she left the academic world, but in her middle years she became an artist, creating cartoons, photographs, box art, and miniatures employing a wide variety of media in the service of an off-beat and quirky sensibility. Her visual work ranges in tone from elegy to satire, from meditation to comedy. In 2011 she finally returned to Helen Hull and assisted in the republication of Hull’s Heat Lightning by Persephone Books in 2013. She co-administers the Helen R. Hull Facebook page.
