Thyde Monnier was the pen name of Mathilde Monnier, an award-winning French writer and feminist born in Marseille. Her works included Grand-Cap, Le Pain des pauvres (The Bread of the Poor), Nans le Berger (Nans the Shepherd), Travaux (Works), Le Figuier sterile (The Sterile Fig Tree), Coeur (Heart), and La Demoiselle (The Lady). Her novels often describe the world of fishermen, peasants, shepherds and workers in her native Provence region.
