Greenlight’s new Cookbook Club, led by neighbor and educated foodie Grant Bremer, meets on the second Tuesday of every third month to share dishes and discussion of featured cookbooks, with a focus on locally available ingredients and accessible yet adventurous recipes. First-time attendees can attend without cooking; for every subsequent meeting attendees are asked to contribute a recipe for the group. For October, the group samples recipes from Sylvia’s Table by Liz Neumark, the CEO and founder of Great Performances, rated Zagat’s top catering company in New York City (and the caterer for BAM, among others). Liz’s commitment to supporting sustainable agriculture and good earth practices led her to establish Katchkie Farm, her sixty-acre organic farm in upstate New York, which is also home to the Sylvia Center, a garden-to-table culinary-based program that inspires young people to discover good food and flavors on the farm and in the kitchen. Now Sylvia’s Table brings these lessons and recipes straight from the farm to your kitchen in a deliciously unique cookbook for families. Featuring recipes from “the friends of Katchkie Farm”— chefs and culinary experts including Michael Romano, Jonathan Waxman, Deborah Madison, Sara Moulton; and many others — this is a family cookbook guaranteed to be loved by cooks (and kids) of all ages.
Greenlight book group meetings take place at Greene Grape Annex, across the street from the bookstore at 753 Fulton Street. Current book group picks are always 15% off at Greenlight, in the store or online.
