Pauline Neville was born in Crossmichael, Kirkcudbrightshire, Scotland on April 23, 1924. She became an ambulance driver, a model, and an art student. She began writing in the late 1960s. Her first book, In My Father's House, was published in 1969. Her other books included Voyage of a Life, The show more Cousins, Blackwater, Peggy, and Double Vision. She was an active supporter of English PEN, a writers' association that campaigns to defend authors whose freedom of expression is at risk. She died on October 3, 2015 at the age of 91.
