Larry Niven Launch Party for FATE OF WORLDS in Redondo Beach Larry Niven’s career in mathematics was detoured by a visit to a used bookstore that was filled with science fiction magazines. Although he did obtain his B.A. in mathematics, he dropped out of UCLA after his first year of graduate work in order to pursue his career in writing. Although he has over fifty published books, it’s clear that his Ringwold series has sparked the most intense readership, even to the point of converging in the halls of Larry’s hotel at a convention and chanting “the Ringworld is unstable!” an issue later addressed in The Ringworld Engineers. Fate of worlds is the fifth book in the Ringworld series.
