He has been winning awards for his non-linear style of fiction since the mid-seventies. A short highlight list includes: Books in ... (more)Canada First Novel Award for Coming Through Slaughter; City of Toronto Book Award for In the Skin of the Lion; the Booker Prize and the Governor General’s Award for The English Patient (as well as an Academy Award for Best Picture for the film version); the Giller Prize and the Governor General’s Award for Anil’s Ghost. His latest novel, Divisadero (McClelland & Stewart, 2007), won the Governor General’s Award and was short-listed for the Scotiabank Giller Prize. It details the interconnected journeys through life of each of the characters after a family is torn apart by an act of violence. Ondaatje’s massive bibliography also includes 13 books of poetry, two of which were Governor General’s Award winners.
