Short biography
William C. Orchard was born in England but moved to the United States around 1885. He worked for a short period at the American Museum of Natural History, but left to enter the private employ of George Gustav Heye. Upon the founding of the Museum of the American Indian in 1916, Orchard became a preparator, using his considerable artistic gifts to repair and restore specimens and create models and dioramas for the museum's exhibits. He died in 1948.
