Short biography
Inés Palou was born into a wealthy Spanish family and received a good education. She was accused of manipulating the account books for the company she worked for and spent some time in prison. Palou used the world of crime for the background of her novels, which also described social conditions during the period that General Francisco Franco was dictator of the country. Her published books included the 1975 Carne apaleada ("Beaten Flesh"), which dealt with prison experiences of women, and Operacion dulce (Sweet Operation). Palou committed suicide by throwing herself under a train the same year these works were published.
