Pastor Parvey was one of the first women students at Harvard Divinity School, graduating with a Bachelor of Divinity degree in 1963; she was also the first woman ordained in the Lutheran church in New England. From 1978 to 1982 she served on the Faith and Order Commission of the World Council of Churches in Geneva, Switzerland, where she directed the pathbreaking Study on the Community of Women and Men in the Church. Served on numerous professional committees, councils, and boards. Author of three books, more than 100 chapters, articles and reviews on topics related to the ecumenical movement, ordained ministry, including the ordination of women, worship, biblical studies, theology, ecclesiology, social ethics and the arts.
