Robert Phelps, editor, author, translator and publisher, brought Colette to the attention of U.S. readers. He co-founded the Grove Press with John Balcolm in 1949, selling it to Barney Rosset in 1951. Phelps also taught at Manhattanville College and the New School for Social Research. A selection of letters between him and James Salter, Memorable Days, was published in 2010.
