Marianne Philips published five novels beginning in 1929 and won the CPNB book award for her novella De zaak Beukennoot (The Beechnut Affair, 1950). She was a political activist and worked for the Dutch women's rights movement. After her death, her husband Sam Goudeket and family established the Marianne Philips Prize -- Marianne Philips-prijs -- for literature in her memory.
