David Pirie is a screenwriter, film producer, film critic, and novelist. He was born in Liverpool in 1953.

As a screenwriter, he has written numerous mysteries and horror-themed works, mostly for television. He was nominated for a BAFTA for his adaptation of Wilkie Collins's The Woman in White.

David has written numerous film reviews for such publications as Time Out, Sight and Sound and the Monthly Film Bulletin.

He has written several novels, including Mystery Story, The Patient's Eyes, The Night Calls, and The Dark Water: The Strange Beginnings of Sherlock Holmes.
