Short biography
Tiffany Potter teaches 18th-century studies in the department of English at the University of British Columbia. Her research continues to evolve, from earlier work on libertinism and gender in 18th-century fiction, to representations of indigenous women in 17th- and 18nth-century North American contact and captivity narratives, and most recently into popular culture studies, in the form of co-edited volumes on HBO television's series The Wire and on Battlestar Galactica, and in projects on relationships among 18th-century women and notions of the popular. Recent books include the edited collection, Women, Popular Culture and the Eighteenth Century (2012); the first edition of Elizabeth Cooper's The Rival Widows, or Fair Libertine since its original printing in 1735 (2007); and a critical edition of two of Eliza Haywood's works from 1724: the salacious two-part novel The Masqueraders, or Fatal Curiosity, and its morally conservative counterpart, The Surprise, or, Constancy Rewarded (2014).
