Short biography
Born in Ghana and raised by an African American mother and a Ghanaian father, both of whom were university lecturers. Now lives in Pasadena, California, where he works as a physician.

When he was eight years old, Kwei began to write short novels that he bound by hand with colorfully illustrated cardboard covers. They were big hits with his family and friends. But his budding writing career was sidetracked during his training as a doctor and during the early days of getting his medical careet off the ground. These days, Dr. Kwei Quartey practices medicine in Montebello, California, rising early in the morning to write before going to work. [partly from Wife of the Gods (2009)]
