Ben Ratliff, who has family in Norwich, is the acclaimed music critic for the New York Times. In The Jazz Ear, he writes about his interviews with Sonny Rollins, Ornette Coleman, Branford Marsalis, Dianne Reeves, and other jazz greats. His probing, empathic questions reveal insights about how jazz is conceptualized and how subtle variations in generation, training, and attitude define this unique way of making music. Trombonist Bob Brookmeyer will join us for the evening. (booksense)
