Short biography
Jean-Marie Roland de la Platiere, a manufacturer and economist, married Marie-Jeanne "Manon" Phlipon -- known to history as Madame Roland -- in 1781. Together they wrote articles and were fervent supporters of the French Revolution.  After they fell from political favor during the Reign of Terror, he fled Paris and went into hiding; he was sentenced to death in absentia. Madame Roland stayed in Paris and was executed.  He committed suicide when he learned of his wife's death.
