Phyllis Root has 4 past events. (show) Author Extravaganza for Children's Book Week! Phyllis Root reads from Creak! Said the Bed.; Derek Anderson reads from Hot Rod Hamster.; John Coy reads from Eyes on the Goal.; A. LaFaye reads from Nissa's Place.; Ricki Thompson reads from City of Cannibals.; Swati Avasthi reads from Split. It's authors and illustrators all day long in celebration of Children's Book Week. In fact, we'll have a different author visiting each hour on the hour starting at 11 AM. To make it easy for all of us, they'll be here in order of age--youngest to oldest (that's the age of the readers, not the authors). Each of these fabulous authors has a brand new, and (in our humble opinions) brilliant book out this spring. Here's the line-up: 11AM: Phyllis Root, author of Creak, Said the Bed~~~ 12PM: Derek Anderson, illustrator of Hot Rod Hamster & two new Little Quack books~~~ 1PM: John Coy, author of Eyes on the Goal~~~ 2PM: A. LaFaye, author of The Keening and Nissa's Place~~~ 3PM: Ricki Thompson, author of City of Cannibals~~~ 4PM: Swati Avasthi, author of Split~~~ (omayao)… (more)

Phyllis Root, Author Phyllis Root , Paula Bunyan. Phyllis Root, Author May 16, Saturday, 10:30am There’s news from the North Woods! Author Phyllis Root is pleased to announce that she discovered (in her imagination) Paul Bunyan’s "little" sister Paula Bunyan. Yes, Phyllis created her very own tall tale, the previously untold story of Paul Bunyan’s younger sister, and celebrates its publication this morning at The Red Balloon Bookshop. Be among the first to hear the story of Paula, who is tall as a pine tree, can lift the local ferry above her head, and can run so fast that she once ran back to yesterday! But wait! There’s more to this great read-aloud story. Paula heads to the North Woods in search of freedom, adventure, and space enough for her big strides and boisterous singing. She uses her brains and brawn to surmount every challenge along the way. In no time, she gains the friendship of animals such as wolves and bears. She also does something else: when she sees a forest being destroyed by lumberjacks, Paula hatches a larger-than-life plan to save the wilderness! Phyllis Root, who lives in Minneapolis, is the author of more than thirty books, many of them award-winners. Her first book was Moon Tiger, published in 1985. She is currently an instructor in the Compleat and Practical Scholar program for children at Vermont College, Norwich University in Vermont. Please note: Customers may bring one book from home to be autographed along with a new book (or books) purchased during this event for Phyllis Root at The Red Balloon Bookshop. (booksense)… (more)
