Yitskhkok Rudashevski was a Jewish boy born in Lithuania in 1927. A gifted writer, he kept a diary from 1942 to 1943. The Germans invaded the country in 1941 and in September 1941, Rudashevski and his family had moved into the ghetto. In September 1943, as the ghetto was being liquidated, he and his family went into hiding. Their hiding place was discovered a few weeks later and the entire family except one cousin was shot to death in Ponar.
Rudashevski was fifteen at the time of his death. His diary was first published in Yiddish in 1953. The English translation appeared in 1973.
