Published in 2007, this book is dated in some ways, but still of value. Dollar amounts are outdated

The concepts of preparing for retirement do not change, even though recent financial turns of events have affected many current and future retirees' resources. Topics like relocation, fitness and health, volunteering, and how to spend one's golden years are addressed, and still current. Examples of lifestyles by real retirees give ideas for anyone looking for inspiration.

Guidance on when to spend which financial streams are interesting (Assets and Buckets), including when and how to apply for Social Security. Both single and coupled people are addressed. Social Security and Medicare are discussed, but a lot has changed since 2007, and the information should not be relied on as the way things are now.

Other topics include estate planning, long-term care insurance, and pensions. Two chapters I found helpful were Budgeting for Retirement (or during) and the last chapter that lays out a retirement timeline beginning 5 years out. Another topic of interest was a short discussion about what to do if one inherits an IRA. Bound to federal law, banks don't even know how to handle them and often give faulty information to heirs who must pay the price (or taxes) of inferior counseling. This books is indexed.
