Harriet Salisbury

The first half of this book dealt largely with the East End of London in the years before WWII, even as far back as the turn of the century. Since the book was subtitled, How the Blitz Changed it Forever, I kept wondering when we were going to get to the war. Still, the stories of poverty and work all had a point that needed to be understood to fully comprehend the impact of the war. The personal viewpoints of East Enders was very interesting and the end of the book was almost the best part as it talked about how they recovered from the war and how that part of town changed.… (more)
