Well written account of a submariner who served throughout WW2 into Korea. He presents life on subs in a balanced manner and makes the many perils clear. Recommended read.

This was an easy and interesting read. The myriad of experiences Paul Schratz endured during his naval career is fascinating. His WWII experiences were well described. His insights into the boredom, confusion, competition among the various CO's and the technical intransigence of the US Navy were very interesting. This is an honestly written account of one man's career during a very difficult part of our country's history. As a submarine veteran, I applaud Paul Schratz's effort in telling his story.… (more)

Quick and and candid as well as interesting read which is a good snaphot of one officer's life in WW2 submarines.
