- Klara Semb was born in Oslo (then known as Kristiania), Norway, a daughter of Ole H. Semb and his wife Amalie Jansen. She studied and documented Norwegian folk songs and traditions, and was a leading folk dance teacher and choreographer. She also documented regional variations of traditional costumes, and was a pioneer in bringing them into a wider public. Among her books are the songbook Norske Folkeviser (1920) and four volumes on Norwegian folk dances. She published a book for children called Danse, danse dokka mi in 1958. She was decorated with the Order of St. Olav in 1954.
