Derek Anderson, illustrator Judy Sierra , Ballyhoo Bay. Derek Anderson, illustrator March 28, Saturday, 10:30am Inside his studio in snowy, cold Minneapolis, illustrator Derek Anderson painted pictures of sunny, warm Ballyhoo Bay. His vibrant and buoyant illustrations were paired with author Judy Sierra’s words to become the new picture book Ballyhoo Bay. At Ballyhoo Bay, Mira Bella the artist teaches painting and sculpture to grannies and kids amidst the sun, sea, sand, and sky. How delightful! One day a billboard goes up to announce a high-rise building and other plans for the bay. That will mean no more sand or seashells or painting or fun – and absolutely no children and wildlife allowed. Mira Bella is not one to take this plan lightly. Can art save Ballyhoo Bay? Join Derek this morning when he reads this modern fable that celebrates art, nature, and community. He’ll do a bit of drawing, too! (booksense)… (more)
