This is a novelization of a history the author wrote about her ancestor who was sent to Australia as a convict. It gives the background in England of some of the women, as well as their lives and tribulations after arrival in Sydney Cove of 1826. The story gives a good impression of live in the penal colony and, as well as the obvious hardship, shows the opportunities transportation could offer once the prisoner had served his or her sentence.
