Based on the deadly, historic Tri-State tornado that struck Missouri, Illinois, and Indiana on May 18th, 1925, Falling to Earth is a moving account of tragedy, grief, and survivors' guilt. The town of Marah, Illinois, lies directly in the path of the tornado, and by the end of that fateful Wednesday, hundreds of inhabitants are dead or wounded and hundreds more are homeless. Miraculously, Paul Graves and his young family are the only ones to have survived unscathed; the children are home sick when the school collapses; their home and his lumber business are unscratched. As they help the town struggle to rebuild around them, they witness the awe fade from their neighbors and the growing resentment that takes its place.
